Asset Building Program

Opportunities is pleased to introduce a new program for Campbell River and Courtenay.

  • The asset-building project is designed to help individuals to build savings.
  • The project increases the financial capabilities and provides saving incentives.
  • The project is based on the belief that in order for people to improve their lives they need tools and knowledge to assess their options and determine the best course of action for their individual circumstances.

The project is forward thinking, effectively giving people a jump-start (a hand up not a hand out).

Managing finances is a skill, coaching to understand the choices available can make a difference and change a person's life.

The project is intended for people who are living at lower income levels. The chart below describes the annual income

Each participant will be expected to enter into a saving program where they will save between $15 to $50 per month and their savings will be matched at a ratio of 3:1, for a period of 2 years.

Managing debts and building savings creates security, stability, and ultimately better citizens.

At the end of the 2-year program, participants will be able to use their matched savings for home ownership, education or self-employment.

The program will require each person to have a plan to achieve his or her goal of home ownership, education or self-employment prior to being accepted.
